Borneol (Longnao Xiang)
In Buddhism, borneol is regarded as a premium offering for deities and is one of the main aromatic ingredients used during the ritual of bathing the Buddha. According to the Tang Materia Medica, natural borneol is pure in texture, producing a rich fragrance with minimal smoke when burned. It has been prized both in the East and the West as a rare treasure throughout history.
(Suitable for worship, offering prayers, incense burning, purification, meditation, and promoting peace of mind and health.)
"Borneol incense curls like a coiled dragon, resting on a tiger-head carved pillow, delicately hollowed."
– Mei Yaochen, Song Dynasty
"Words fail to describe her beauty; her garments infused with borneol, the fragrance lingers deep in the bones."
– Zhang Yong, Song Dynasty
Borneol, also known as bing pian (ice flakes), is one of the most precious Chinese medicinal ingredients. First documented in the Newly Revised Materia Medica of the Tang Dynasty, it is known for opening bodily orifices, relieving internal heat, reducing swelling, alleviating pain, and improving vision.
Also referred to as bing pian or ruinao, borneol has been phonetically transliterated in Buddhist scriptures from Sanskrit as Jiebuluo, Jiepolo, or Gubupolü. It is a crystalline substance derived from the resin of trees in the Dipterocarpaceae family, particularly the Dryobalanops aromatica species. Its ancient name “Longnao” (Dragon’s Brain) signifies its esteemed status.
As recorded in the Tang Materia Medica, natural borneol is highly pure and, when burned, emits a strong aroma with little smoke. During the Tang and Song dynasties, emissaries from Persia and Arabia would present borneol as diplomatic gifts to Chinese emperors, testifying to its cultural value.
In Buddhism, borneol is a key ritual ingredient, not only used in offerings and bathing the Buddha, but also listed among the “Five Sacred Scents” of esoteric Buddhism (agarwood, sandalwood, clove, turmeric, and borneol). In regions where borneol is naturally abundant, the resin of the borneol tree is even used as oil for temple lamps. In Xishuangbanna, Dai monks regard the borneol tree as sacred and refer to it as the "Treasure of Trees." They often use its oil to keep the “eternal flame” burning before the Buddha.
Borneol can be applied externally, consumed, or used as incense. Cooling and refreshing to the senses, it is known to clear heat, calm the mind, and awaken the spirit. In Southeast Asian customs, it is often mixed with other aromatic substances like agarwood and musk, then applied to the body after bathing. In some areas, it is even consumed—combined with ingredients like ambergris and wrapped in betel nut, it serves as a luxurious indulgence for nobles and royalty.

We never add artificial fragrances, essential oils, perfumes, synthetic aromas, lime powder, plasticizers, miscellaneous wood fiber, or any other unnecessary chemical additives.
3、100% Natural and Pure
Made entirely from high-quality natural herbs with high oil content and potent medicinal properties, our incense contains minimal fiber. This results in a burn that is smooth, non-drying, non-irritating, and free from harshness. The aroma is mild yet rich, mellow, and layered. While the main herbs express their unique scent profiles fully, the precisely balanced formulas create a harmonious and refined fragrance with great depth.
4、Naturally Darker Ash Colors
Some premium herbs have a naturally rich and dense nature, which may result in darker ash colors when burned—ranging from light gray to deep gray. This is a natural presentation of unadulterated herbal material. We do not add lime or wood powder to artificially whiten the ash, ensuring that what you experience is 100% pure and authentic herbal incense.
