Due to the recent sharp increase in the price of authentic Indian Old Mountain Sandalwood, it has become unaffordable for general consumers if used to make incense products. Although there are cheaper alternatives that mimic the scent of Sandalwood, we insist on avoiding any artificial fragrances. The Sandalwood tree is a semi-parasitic evergreen tree with dense, solid wood. Its color ranges from pale yellow to light brown and darkens over time. It is primarily grown in regions such as eastern India, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Southeast Asia, Australia, and Fiji. Among these, Indian Old Mountain Sandalwood is considered the highest quality. Since 1980, the Indian government has imposed restrictions on the large-scale export of sandalwood, making the Old Indian Sandalwood even more precious.
Sandalwood trees grow extremely slowly, taking several decades to mature, and are one of the slowest-growing species. Mature trees can reach up to ten meters in height. The trees are highly delicate and must parasitize other plants like Phoenix trees, red bean trees, or acacia trees during their seedling stage to survive. Due to the limited production of Sandalwood and the high demand, it has always been considered a rare and expensive material.
Throughout history, Sandalwood has been revered as a "sacred wood" in various religious traditions. Ancient Sanskrit manuscripts mention Sandalwood as a mysterious substance used to facilitate communication between humans and deities. For over 4,000 years, Sandalwood has played an irreplaceable and sacred role in human history. Devout individuals have always burned this precious aromatic wood during prayers, ceremonies, and offerings to gods and ancestors, seeking blessings.

New Mountain Sandalwood mainly comes from Western Australia, Eastern Australia, and Northern Australia, with the best quality coming from Western Australia. However, unless it's top-tier New Mountain Sandalwood, the scent tends to be more pungent compared to Old Mountain Sandalwood.
Old Mountain Sandalwood, in general, has a smoother, more mellow fragrance, with Indian Old Mountain being the highest quality. However, real Indian Old Mountain Sandalwood is extremely rare on the market today (though many products are labeled as "Indian Old Mountain"). The second-best quality comes from East Timor, where the fragrance closely resembles Indian Old Mountain, but it too is scarce and expensive.
After the decline of true Indian Old Mountain Sandalwood, Snow Pear and East Timor Sandalwood have become alternative options, but with the recent rise of China's economy, even these alternatives have become more expensive.
